"You too," said the woman, sitting down across the table. "Is this just a brief visit, or did you find that the pace of life in New York was just too hectic?" "Um, I'm not sure yet whether I'll be staying or not," Stacy said. "It must be nice to be so free to do whatever you want. I suppose that with all that money in the bank from your big win on that TV quiz show, you need never work again. I wish I had a memory like yours. It was absolutely amazing when you answered all those questions without a single mistake." A memory like hers? And now she couldn't even remember her own surname! Still, at least now she knew that she had come by her money honestly.

"So what are you doing now?" she asked the woman, wanting to change the subject.

  1. "Oh, I'm still looking after the bookstall at the VLA Visitors' Center. I see you've already got one of our biggest sellers."
  2. "The same as always," said the woman, not very helpfully.
  3. "So did you expect the only dentist in town to suddenly take up a new career?" the woman said with a grin.
