The Never Ending Quest - Episode 66468

Later . . .

A young woman with red hair and shocking green eyes sighs, looking around at the large, forbidding dark room where the lord and master of NERV (Jappanese branch) had reigned from with an iron fist. However, now that Gendo Akari (as well as all the "Bastard Kings" by that name) were now "guests" in the rather cramped jail cells that the base provided.

Not that they particularly cared right now, only wishing to die to end their misery. Irony. The very women they'd longed and worked so hard to bring back to their side should reject them over such "trivial" and "little" matters as abandoning his only son for over ten years. Perverting his own wife's wishes and desire for not only her son, but the entirety of human kind? Working to bring them back to life in such a way that violated the dreams and principles of those to be resurrected?

The Gendo Akaris in their cells are smart and manipulative in their own fashion. Inspired even, but in the end they'd been too blinded in their desires to realize the truth. Now they realize it, but just as it had been in the movie The End of Evangelion, the knowledge came too late.

However, unlike in that movie there is to be no demonic version of Unit 01 to literally bite their heads off . . . though each of them wishes that such a thing WOULD happen if only to end their misery.

Quiet honestly, too many people are enraged at them to spare them the bullet, though.

But anyway, back to the dark chamber from which they'd been dethroned an odd ceremony of sorts is taking place.

"Many things have happened today to me since awakening anew in this post-apocalyptic world I know as Earth," a young woman says softly, standing before the big empty desk that dominated the room. "Many wondrous and beautiful things happened to me today that you would never have allowed to have happened if you had your say, you son of a . . . bitch."

The last word holds more than a hint of hurt feelings in it. She remembered her feelings she had felt upon being rescued from her Entry Plug after an injurious failed activation test of her EVA Unit, Unit 00. Such fond feelings (and memories) had been lost to Reika Ayanami Quatermain upon coming into her third incarnation (Rei III), but her family had used magicks to help her regain herself. She loved being able to remember her true past and actually being able to feel anything (and knowing what emotions were).

However, with that return she had also realized just how used she had been by the one man she could have called "father".

The two other similar appearing teenage girls in the room would know exactly how that could be, having been in almost exactly the same situation with "their" Commander Ikaris as well.

That all said and told, there is now a creaking sound can be heard on the heels of those words of Reika's, followed by the sound of the snapping of a pair of glasses into two parts.

"I am not your doll!" she finishes up, tossing the broken pair of glasses she'd obtained somewhere along the way after that failed Unit 00 activation test. They'd been damaged by heat while Gendo had been rescuing her and she had kept them in fondness for the man.

The breaking of them and tossing them away was pretty much saying things were well and truly over and done for between them, folks. And a LOT of people out there would shout it was about bloody time!

"It is done," Reika finishes, turning her back on the desk which lay the broken glasses. Walking away, she knew that in a real sense (as well as symbolic sense) she was also walking away from the last traces of her old life. That said, she was rather looking forward to the new. The old life didn't have . . . much of a future. If thing hadn't gone totally off into left field here, in a few months she would have been initiating Third Impact (and Instrumentality) at the bequest of "her" Commander Ikari. And knowing what she now knew of what she knows of "the future history" from both talks with Elrondir and Cousin Lilith?

She believed that the phrase that Aunt Chiana used from time to time best summed up her feelings on the matter: "Frell that!"

. . .

Besides, she like her new lot in life. Like her new self. Loved her family. Loved being able to fly and the soft feel of her new wings! Lovely!

Shivering slightly in happiness, she smiled slightly and turned towards her sister and cousin. Turning serious, she then addressed Lilith.

  1. "So . . . tell me again what this Renegotiation did to your Validation Quest," the young red headed (and red winged) teenager asked the former Second Neon Genesis Angel. "That and just how exactly did your Quest got tangled up in mine?"
