The Disembodied Voice

"I think it's coming from over there," Carola said, pointing in a direction almost at right-angles to that of the still-distant glow. "Should we head towards it, and see if we can make out what it is saying?"

"We might as well," Astra replied. "We don't seem to have anything to lose."

So they headed towards the voice until they could hear it clearly, though there was still no sign of its owner. The voice was saying:

1. "Abandon all hope, ye who enter here."
2. "I once was as ye are now. Soon ye shall be as I now am."
3. "Fools! You walked right into my trap. I knew that you would not be able to resist coming to investigate."
4. "I can tell you what it was that attacked you."
5. "I can give you a torch. Of course, you'll have to do something for me in return."
