Stacy was wondering with a touch of irritation just why her next-door neighbour thought that she had the right to invite herself in and make herself a snack. Still, perhaps they were best friends or something, so she had better not say anything. Her musing was interrupted by the ringing of the phone. She knew that she had an answering machine, so wondered whether that might be an easier option than answering the phone herself in her present state of amnesia.

  1. She decided to answer it.
  2. She let the answering machine handle it.
  3. Sue came in and said: "Well, if you're not going to answer it, I will," and picked up the receiver. What a nerve!
