"Uh, isn't the knight already dead?" Fred asked, playing for time.
"No, he is merely paralysed. I was about to asphyxiate him when first Belinda and then you interrupted, but now you can do it for me." Fred wasn't sure that he could bring himself to do it. Besides, wouldn't that create a paradox, since his memory was of Astra doing the deed? But if he had succeeded in killing Astra when he was in Belinda's body, then presumably his original body would never have died at all, which would have created a far bigger paradox, and the thought of that hadn't worried him. He tried to confuse the issue. "I serve the dragon, not you, Astra. He asked you to kill the knight, not me. In any case, how do I know that the dragon really wants the knight dead? Perhaps this is some private vengeance of your own. In which case, I would risk angering the dragon by killing him." "Don't be ridiculous. The knight is sworn to slay the dragon. Of course the dragon wants him dead. You have thirty seconds to start choking him, little sister, if you don't want to share Belinda's fate."
