A Spell of Yrrlassrhye's

Diana stepped forward, interposing herself between them. She had slipped her crossbow from her shoulder and was cranking back the string to the firing position. She only had two bolts left, but she knew that she would only have time for one shot in any case. Whether a bolt would have any effect on what might be either a demon or a zombie was very doubtful, but she didn't intend to let Exotica be taken without at least making the attempt to save her.

Diana now had her back to Exotica, but she heard her start to utter an incantation in the same strange language that she had used for her summoning song. Diana did not turn; she needed to keep her attention fixed on Wayndaimlyon.

Exotica finished her incantation, and suddenly Diana knew that the rider was her friend and that it was Fred who was her mortal enemy. She swiftly turned and loosed her crossbow bolt at him.

Fred had seen Exotica pointing at Diana while casting her spell, but he was not expecting it to have the effect on the amazon that it did. The bolt hit him as he belatedly dodged, but fortunately it was only a glancing blow, so that it ricocheted from his chain mail without penetrating it.

Seeing this, the amazon, in the grip of a berserker rage, tossed aside her crossbow and sprang at Fred, bearing him to the ground. Her hands closed around his throat as he tried to throw her off.

1. By the time Fred, with help from the other three girls, has fought off Diana, Exotica has mounted in front of the rider and the horse has left the temple.
2. Something happens to foil Wayndaimlyon.
3. Diana kills Fred before coming to her senses.
