The marks were not unsightly, but their blue colour showed up clearly
against the near white of the giantesses' skin. The pain, which
fortunately had quickly vanished, told each sister that she must bear the
same mark that she could see on the other.
Once their attempts to remove the marks had failed, and discussing them had made clear that neither could understand why they should have appeared, they decided that there was no point in brooding on them and that they should try to put them out of their minds. (Though this was easier said than done, since each time one looked at the other she was reminded of it.) They finished their maintenance work on their gear, not making as good a job of it as usual because of their distraction, and stowed most of it away in their packs. (Though of course they would keep their war axes readily to hand, just in case they encountered trouble.) Then they put on their packs and moved off, With no obvious destination in mind, they followed the path beside the stream as it led them gradually downhill through a narrow valley. The day was sunny, so both twins were wearing short skirts and halter tops made from animal skins to protect them from sunburn. They went barefoot, the soles of their feet being tough enough that footwear was unnecessary. The temperature was a pleasant 45F, but it was still fairly early and it might become uncomfortably warm later on if the sun stayed out, perhaps as much as 60F.
