The Papito's Pizza van is dragged down into the distortion rift. It falls
continuously faster and faster, deeper and deeper, twisting around like a
corkscrew until the main temporal track it had been on becomes impossible
to see. Guido looks out the window. A baby, a boy in childhood, an adolescent...Fred! They're all Fred! Guido begins to realize that this can mean one thing. Fred, too, is looking outside, his mouth open in wonderment. These were his memories! His family, Mom, Dad, his older sister...friends, Guido, Velus... and enemies, the necromancer, the dragon... fondest moments, his first kiss, when he'd been first allowed to learn fencing, his instructor's praise... recent events in his life, when he'd been sent on this mission, watching Velus turn into hummus, pressing the buttons on the wall, fighting off monsters, meeting the ratman...So much of his life, including some he didn't remember. He saw a great deal of these memories he knew never happened. The ratamn...was his name Nitch, or something else? Didn't he restore Velus to his rightful shape and not a hummus? Or was he really an ancient hag? Was he a butterfly dreaming he was a man? Or a bowling ball dreaming he was a plate of sashimi? For the life of him he couldn't guess the answers to any of these questions. Guido could probably have, though. Having spent numerous years traveling the time circuits, he now knew this was a rift especially acclimated to Lord Fred. However, not only did it contain his 'real' memories, but also events that could possibly have happened had he chosen differently at any given time. It showed other parallel realities. As well, Guido would probably be able to escape if Fred wasn't with him in the van, since the distortion centers on him. What the hell, thinks Guido. He reaches over and undoes Fred's seatbelt. "What--" says Fred, but then Guido opens his door and kicks him out into the rift. Fred falls in silence for a moment, shocked at his supposed friend's actions. Then he suddenly takes action.
