digital phone, Lord Frederigo still pulled one out and called Papito's on
the corner of Fifth and Paine. "Hey, Guido, s'me, Fred. How are ya buddy?
Me? Oh, I'm trapped on a desert island over here. I could use a lift. Can
y'do it? Really? 'Kay, thanks, I really appreciate it. Oh yeah, and bring
the usual too, pal. Thanks a lot. See ya in a half-hour, Guido." Fred
presses the 'off' button and leans back on a palm tree. *** After forty-eight minutes, Fred is beginning to think that the stoner forgot him, at which point a big white van with a pizza on the top materializes a ways up on the beach. Fred stands and runs towards it. Fred's friend the time-traveling pizza-man Guido rolls down the window and tells Fred to get in. Soon they're traveling down the canals of time and space. "You were late," says Fred, "and where's my pizza?" "Here." Guido shoves a box towards him. "Jeez, buddy, I just took a stop for some temptation in Babylon. You oughta be happy I came at all, man." "Yeah, yeah. Just drop me off back at the castle, okay?" "No can do yet, pally. Still got a coupla deliveries to make. Don't worry though. You'll get home fine, all right." He looks at Fred. "Never can get over that crap you medieval guys wear," he chuckles to himself. They drove in silence a while. Then a beeping was emitted from the dash in front of Guido. "Oh shit," he said, looking into the rear-view mirror. "What? What is it?" asked Fred, unused to time-travel. "Temporal distortion, man," Guido said grimly "We're getting sucked in. Engaging turbo drive...Now." Fred swivels rapidly in his seat, looks through the back window, and sees a dark swirling vortex coming up on them.
