Suddenly, there is the sound of a record screeching across the tracks. The
surroundings blur and melt around Fred, and then he finds himself standing
in a black emptiness. Words appear in the air, filling what would be the
sky. Dear Fred, Sorry for the nonsense of the last while. It has really gotten out of control, so I am taking immediate steps. For reasons too complex to get into in a simple message (i don't have time to elaborate because CSI: Miami is about to come on) I cannot just send you back into the caves or even put you in an environment with others. I have to send you to a place that no one really wants to go, and a piss poor version of it at that. Please forgive me. Notes were left by the previous occupant. You would do well to read them and heed them. Regards, Lord Reaibn Daenorth Fred is confused, but then who wouldn't be after everything he has gone though in such a short period of time. He feels very sleepy, but attempts to fight it. It is a losing battle, however, with his collapse onto the soft nothingness happening moments later. Fred awakens, coughing, on what must have once been a Teal sofa. Now it is faded and worn, and covered with a thick mantle of dust. Spiderwebs cover a good portion of it, and sitting up he sees several other dust and web-covered couches in the room. There is a TV on a table, and dusty boxes marked 'FOOD'. There is also what appears to be a window that has been boarded over. Having a bad feeling, Fred jumps to his feet and yes, there is a strangely inaccessible staircase going through the room. It is just walled off from the rest of the room by tattered 'CAUTION' tape. Sighing, Fred finally notices the note taped to the couch. He picks it up to read it, expecting grim news. To any who should come after, We are undone. We are dying. This should not be able to happen, but there has been an Incident that could not be controlled. The UnRaveller's children succeeded in their work, and the Tower shall fall. The food in the boxes may have rotted, but should you be in the room we implore you not to leave. The other floors are not safe. The staircase is not safe. Pray to whoever or whatever you believe in that you can find exit from this place from the Staircase Room, for the protective magics on it will surely be some of the last to fall. Do not open the window. Read the notes. If you find our bodies, do not disturb them. There may be some lingering chaos that could do you harm. It is too late for us. Woe to us, for failing to stop the children. All humor is gone, and Josh has just fallen asleep again. I fear this time he will not wake. We will not leave our bodies in this room. Do not look for our remains. My prayers are with you, whoever you are. May you find a way out. And, though hope is gone, if you find a way to restore the Tower, please do it.
