Alicia frowned. "They really did pull the wool over your eyes at home,
didn't they? As morphs, we're hated, reviled. We just aren't considered
human!" Frederigo was shocked. He had often heard the legends of the morphs, how they were feared. Mothers told their children to be quiet at night, or a morph might get them. His wildly imaginative younger brother, Jarlath, had told him horror storie about morphs that had kept him awake at night, scared. But now he was a morph, beyond the pale of humanity, destined to be separated from other humans or be an outcast living among them. The implications of this came to Fred, and it shocked him. Alicia was right. His best choice was to stay here. And yet... He remembered his quest. The fate of the Kingdom had depended on him, and he had failed. He had to go back and kill the Dragon. He may not be a human anymore, but he still had his honor. Humanity may reject Fred, but he still had to protect it. Fred felt torn. If he went back to defeat the Dragon, he would come as a monster, reviled and shunned even by those who had once been his friends. But he had courage, and could face that. And it would be that way only for a short time, as he would no doubt return to the island--and to Alicia--after he killed the Dragon. But first, he had a problem.
