A Man and his Bullet

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 62899

"Freeze!" Fred shouted, although he knew it wouldn't matter. He was a half-dragon, a hybrid; there was no hope for him." The half-dragon continued to walk forward awkwardly.

"Fred…you must-" but its word were cut by the bullet sinking through its head. Its body sprawled backward and it the floor and an audible *CRACK* rang through the hallway. The creature exhaled one last breath before ceasing completely.

Fred stood there in silence for a few seconds before he realized he was still holding his gun forward. Slowly, he re-paced his breathing, and let his arm drop. He stared the half-dragon's body, sprawled across the hallway; a twisted, gory, mess. The walls were showered with thick, crimson blood. On the floor, a small river trickled from the creature's head. Fred felt his stomach jerk even though he knew he should be use to this scenario by now. Wiping his face with his sleeve, he gave the creature one final look and turned to leave. Suddenly, a door behind him slammed open. Fred turned around and saw fellow co-worker Cindy Miconi, a young blonde haired woman with a smile that captured the hearts of men. But she wasn't wearing it right now.

"Richard!" Cindy screamed so loudly it should have shattered the glass. She fell beside the hybrid's body and buried her face in its stomach. "Richard!" she sobbed again. "God, why did he have to go? Why do you do this to me?"

Fred suddenly felt a sick burning in his chest. Trying to be as discrete as possible, he turned around to leave and walked straight into a man's chest.

"Hello Jack" Fred muttered through gritted teeth. He backed up. Today Jack "The Ghost" Wicker, was wearing his standard black security uniform, which contrasted nicely with his pale skin and colorless hair. Jack straightened his thin sunglasses and walked closer to the trauma site.

"Poor, poor, Cindy." he said, just loud enough to surface above Cindy's mourning. "Her happiness, hopes and dreams, all destroyed by a single man and his bullet. So tragic…you do know you killed her fiancé, right?

Between Jack and himself, Fred wasn't sure which of the two wanted to shoot more. "You know it had to be done. This thing could have contaminated the whole facility."

"That's just what the scientists tell you. Have you ever actually studied them for yourself? Have you ever actually listened to what they had to say? For all you know, they might be our saviors.

"Doubtful. I can't see any good coming from something with dragon inside it." It's because of them, millions are dead. It's because of them we're forced to live under the earth's shit. It's because of them everything we loved and hoped for in life has gone down to ruins with Des Moines!" Fred hurled his gun down the hall, and a bullet rang out, and was followed the sound of shattering glass. Fred stared at the broken window, horrified and bewildered, and then fell to the ground. For every time he beat his fist against the floor, he cursed a new curse.

"Hmm, that's that good, is it?" Said Jack, who'd stood unfazed by the bullet incident. "Don't worry. Maybe Bradley won't notice …which reminds me. He asks to see you, Hasta pronto."

"Son of a---what? What does he…-" But Jack had vanished.

"…want." Fred suddenly realized that it was strangely quiet. He turned around. Tear faced Cindy had ceased her sobbing and was giving him the most befuddled look.

"Ummm…I've got to go." said Fred quickly as he headed out the nearest door.

  1. In what seemed like no time, Fred enters Bradley's office.
  2. Meanwhile, Jack has to see an old friend...
  3. "Wait!" Cindy says, getting up.
