Indeed...

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 62813

"Otis," Fred snaps angrily. "What part of 'stay BACK' until I said it was okay did you not understand? I'm in the middle of something here, for God's sake!!

"Indeed you are," a gravelly voice says in an almost amiable fashion, the owner having a VERY disurbingly familiar sounding voice. "But I fear that I must interrupt."

The G-man who is still very much on the razor's edge of death (by way of Fred Takahashi's knife) blinks in surprise as he sees the world about him go slightly off colored and everyone but himself and one other person in this room freezes in their tracks. For the moment the G-man just stares stupidly at Fred and slowly (VERY slowly) raises his hand and pushes the knife away from his neck.

For the next thirty seconds the shallow faced man takes some VERY deep breaths (almost hyperventilating in reaction) as he pushes away from the still frozen Fred Takahashi, holding his neck as if in fear that it should fail and his head just roll off his body.

"Ah yes, I do rather remember how I'd reacted that way myself," the male voice behind chuckles mirthlessly. Not appreciating being laughed at, with or without mirth, the G-man actually snarls in anger and turns to find him facing . . . himself. He does not understand how or why, but his senses (some of them being much more than what ordinary human's enjoyed) told him that this mirror image was indeed . . . himself. How or why his older self should be here and now, he was clueless. And gob stopped for it.

"And IF I may add I should have the right to laugh at myself," the other G-man chuckles slightly at his flabbergasted (younger) self. "After all, if one cannot laugh at one's self . . . one's younger self. . . .then who can one laugh at, eh?"

A slow, stunned realization percolated through the "younger" G-man. While by no means slow witted, the younger version has been through quiet a few shocks today, up to and including being faced with (literally) one's self! It is almost a given that the G-man here (the younger one, anyway) got thrown for a loop.

As such, the elder G-man is in a tolerant mood (up to a point).

After a bit dodging of questions which would reveal TOO much of the future (and pretty much put the elder G-man in a world of hurt because of it), he finally gets tired of it.

"We do not have time for this," the elder hisses sternly. "Even you . . . er . . . I back now in this time period knew that bending time to my own will can only be done for only so long of a period of time, subjectively!"

Translation: while the elder G-man had somehow gained the ability to bend time to his will, being able to wrap himself and those he chooses inside a "time bubble" (or quasi-pocket universe) outside of the normal flow of time it did NOT mean that it lasted forever, as it were. The time bubble could only be maintained for so long (like a few hours inside the bubble) before collapsing, releasing those inside it back into the normal flow of time of the outside universe.

That limit was fast approaching.

"If you wish to be successful in your mission then by all means I would STRONGLY suggest you listen to what that young girl and with the blue wings and hair and her friends has to say," the elder G-man hisses. "If you wish to succeed and walk the path I have, then listen to their words! Let us just say that . . ."

The words are cut off in midstream, just as the elder G-man remembered. Frankly, if he hadn't been so wound up in trying to answer all his younger self's questions, then . . . Well, never mind.

Right now, the remaining G-man recognizes where he stands: Tokyo 3! He also recognizes the people at his feet as well. Around the G-man lay several of his best men, the ones he had hand picked to actually retrieve Rei Ayanami. Most look to be down for the count, but may actually (hopefully) come back. One person (very charred) looks like he shall never arise again before the Final Trumpet (i.e. Judgement Day), but in any case what is totally apparent is that his crack unit got their asses handed to them!

How could this have happened and how did it relate to these two young, winged girls he’d just met mere moments ago? Oh, be assured it did not go unnoticed by the G-man that one of the two females went by the name “Rei” and had blue hair and red eyes. Hey, she even LOOKED like the target by quiet a bit, but the target Rei Ayanami was a fourteen year old. This Rei not only was older than that but she had wings (and by the files the G- man had on that target she was NOT winged). Now, the one who called herself “Reika” was the correct age, but again there was the fact that while she looked the right age and looked amazingly similar to the target . . . (both looked amazingly similar to the target), neither she nor this “Rei” could be the target! They acted differently than what the files said the target acted. They both had wings, which rather did NOT get mentioned in the files. And by God they looked . . . real, those wings! Beyond anything animatronics or any kind of other human high tech trickery could account for, really. Point in fact, beyond the technology that HE was familiar with (which could be considered magic by human beings, how much higher it was compared to “his” Earth’s humans).

At least as long as he stays well out of arms reach of that maniac with the knife (wasn’t going to be stupid and make the same mistake twice and stand his ground), he was HOPING to get SOME answers. Hoping that he could somehow perhaps salvage SOMETHING from this operation before it all went to hell. There had been a reason for these extreme measures and while by and large the ad hoc operation was successful, getting Rei Ayanami would be the crowning jewel for this thing. She would be such an asset against his group’s battle against those like the Combine (his race’s long standing enemy). . . .

Besides, as hard and cold blooded as the G-man is, it just struck him as . . . somehow criminal that after having somehow survived an explosion that leveled Tokyo 3 only to have her life snuffed out when the forces arrayed against against this city would destroy HER and everyone left within. With events he had uncovered thus far he could foresee nothing less than SEELE having their catspaw, the Japanese Strategic Self Defense Forces (the special elite branch of the Japanese Self Defense Forces). Oh, in the end SEELE would get NOTHING for their desperation, but a bunch of dead people and a glow in the dark city would STILL be the result.

All this time and effort and THIS happens to his hand picked men?

Hm, maybe after he recovers them (when, not IF) he should get an after action report and find out who managed this? Couldn't be Section 2 because while that spook shack is good in it's own area of expertise, they weren't equipped to take on a military grade assault the G-man could call upon. Same for the rest of NERV HQ, really. Deliberate delays in requested materials and budget funds have pretty much put to paid any real hope that NERV could withstand any military grade assaults for TOO long, what with the Eva units being out of commission (permanently). That is a known fact to the G-man and his faction and anyone with two brain cells left at NERV HQ, but alas that is an unknown to the JSSDF.

They might be more inclined to not attack in such an overwhelming fashion . . . .but then again like in the movie Evangelion movies they'd been ORDERED not to take prisoners....

And as that happens, this will perhaps be the key to at least getting some kind of start for the Champions completing their Quest. But we're jumping ahead here.

Anyway, just before the G-man was just about ready to call it a day and abandon any hope on his plans on scooping up Rei Ayanami before everything goes to Hell here, a shadow falls over him and the rest of the group who’d been swept up to this reality.

The G-man and others who’d followed who were NOT at all familiar with dragons (much less the wyrm category of that race) could NOT help themselves in how they reacted. They did not know HOW to resist Dragon Fear (a mystical aura that Dragons who reach Wyrm status ooze without any effort).

Fred Takahashi, of course, knows how to resist and does so unconsciously. Hey, that was why the G-man, using a pscyhic trick his kind are able to employ, failed to freeze Fred in his tracks earlier. Too similar, Dragon Fear and the G-man’s trick. Still, he’s not fool enough to feel that he could take on FOUR wyrm status dragons and get away unscathed . . . .

The other guests?

Some just drop in their tracks, fainting dead away in fright at the proximity of FOUR dragons of Wyrm status in their midst.

Some soil themselves and THEN fainted.

Well, that could work to the Champion’s advantage. Less awkward questions and all that...

The rest just scream like little girls and head for the hills! That included one security guard named Barney Calhoun and one Corporal Adrian Shepard, the only witnesses who’d seen the strange battle between Fred Takahashi and the G-man. Oh, Fred and the G-man could speak of it, but frankly neither felt like discussing it. Fred wouldn’t because his immortality was . . . due to him having killed his sister in a fit of madness (a source of deep shame, that divine punishment upon him). The G- man just would rather put this embarrassment behind him, honestly.

That and just as soon as possible make adjustments to his personal force field to be able to handle slow moving attacks (like the knife blade that could have done him in there)....

The G-man doesn’t run because since he is naturally immune to Dragon Fear, but still one must admit having FOUR huge dragons look down upon you is a sight best . . . not experienced. That is why he and Fred unintentionally share a sentiment running through both their minds in regards to this matter.

"Sh*t!" both whisper hoarsely, agog at the mighty beasts before them.

  1. "Why have you attempted to kidnap our daughter?" a human female sounding voice growls from one of the oriental looking dragons as she points a claw at the G-man, smoke coming from her nostrils.
