"Of course I've slain it, Duke Zular." Fred lied. Now was not at all
the time for another worry. A king being dead, and a dragon still alive.
Zular furrowed his brow for a moment and then smiled. "Good, good..."
Zular replied. Fred felt like the duke was sneering. Fred had never thought
highly of Zular, and Zular shared the sentiments likewise.
Fred's sadness was boiling into anger, all bottled up. But he wasn't
allowed to show anger, either. It's not the Duke's fault that he's dead.
, whispered the voice in his mind. Fred stared at the glass for a few
moments and then looked up, as Zular was taking a seat across from him.
"How-- how did he die?" Fred said, struggling to pull out the last
word.
"Poisoned." Zular replied immediately, showing little to no
emotion in his voice.
Fred took a few moments to take this in again.
"Poisoned? Assassinated? What will happen to Exotica?"
"Do not worry. She is being protected."
"No, I mean- will she rule?"
"She has not come of age yet. The adult age in Allaria is--"
"19."
"So, I, will rule in the king's place until she comes of age."
Fred almost stood up from his seat and lunged at Zular at this point, but
managed to calm himself. "You? You!? Why!"
"No need to be rude, Frederigo" Zular replied, his eyes fixed upon
Fred's. "I am ruling since I am the king's royal advisory. Since the
princess is currently 17, I will rule for the next two years." Zular's eyes
flashed with happiness for a moment. Fred saw it clearly.

"But where will the princess actually live?" Fred asked, trying to keep his cool.

"Right then." Fred bit his tongue to stop him from saying anything else, and left the table for his quarters.

"Not if I can help it!" Fred grabbed his sword and jumped over the table, lunging at Zular.

The dragon appeared, crashing through the wall of the hall. Fred probably shouldn't have lied.
