"The king is dead... The words echoed through Fred's mind endlessly.
How could this be? Was their an accident? Did he get sick? Was he
murdered? Fred sighed. Not even an hour ago, he felt like the happiest
man to ever walk the lands. Now, he felt lower than shit. When he first
heard the terrible news, he couldn't believe it. But when he arrived at
the castle, he was met by his fellow warrior Sir Roderick who confirmed his
fears, at which point he went into a rage and demanded to know the cause.
After being "calmed down" by Roderick, along with several of the castle
guards, he had his wounds patched up and was taken into the castle's
candle-lit feast hall where someone would soon arrive and explain
everything. Fred took a sip from his wine: its sweetness was bitter.
The doors slammed open. Coming in was Duke Zular Moller, escorted by two castle guards. Fred began to get out of his seat to kneel before him, but the duke put up his hand. "Now is not the time for false modesty." said the duke. He turned to his guards. "You two wait outside."One of the guard's spoke. "I beg your pardon, your nobleness, but the king has given us strict orders to stand by and protect you at all times-" "The king had given you orders to stand by and "protect" me, but now he's dead, along with any vows or orders he left behind. Now leave."The two guards looked at each other until one of them whispered something and nodded. Slowly, they marched out of the hallway and shut the main doors behind them. The duke took a seat opposite of Fred on the table and sighed. "A bloody bastard that king could be. He had those two following from my dressing room to the chamber pot. I was afraid they were going to follow me to the grave." He gave a warm smile. Fred didn't smile back. Duke Zular then went solemn. "King Emry was a noble man; loved by his followers, feared by his enemies. His loss will be mourned by all. You have my greatest sympathy Frederick. I understand he was like a father to you. Fred said nothing. He stared at the reflection of the wine. He saw a sad weakened warrior who ached for the freedom to weep."You should have been born a woman. mocked the same strong voice that he'd heard in the caves. [62667]. Fred ignored it. "Spare me the sweet words." He muttered. "How did he die?""I will get that in just a moment, but first we must clear something up (Fred's clenched his teeth), something which could be a glimmer of happiness in this sad, sad, time. You're here, with all of your body fully intact. Does this mean the Ice Dragon of the Southern caverns is dead? For a passing second, all of Fred's sorrow disappeared and was replaced with anxiety."Why did I come back to the castle"?
