The Never Ending Quest - Episode 62773

The clock that hung on the wall (a timepiece built by Vincent to his own design and far superior, he claimed, to any other in existence) indicated that almost two hours had passed, and Fred(a) and Astra were feeling much better, when Queen Helia said nervously: "Er, should it have taken quite this long, Dr Vincent? I'm getting slightly concerned about my daughter. And Xyllis too, of course."

"I would not wish to disturb them by entering the inner chamber whilst the testing is in progress," he replied, "but I can set up a CCMV that will allow us to see what is going on. I hope that they won't mind being covertly observed."

"CCMV?" Helia asked.

"Closed Circuit Magic Viewer. Look in that mirror over there." He made some passes over the surface of the mirror with his hands, whilst reciting an incantation. Their own reflections disappeared from the mirror, to be replaced by the appearance of a swirling white cloud. This slowly cleared, to reveal:

  1. The inner chamber, where all seemed to be proceeding normally.
  2. The inner chamber, where something had obviously gone very wrong.
  3. The inner chamber, which was now unoccupied!
  4. The face of Pronklezilch, grinning evilly. "Sorry to butt in like this," he said.
  5. A swirling black cloud. "That shouldn't happen," Vincent said, sounding puzzled.
