Though Astra might manage to get in a blow without being seen, the dragon's back was thickly armoured with scales, so she was unlikely to hurt it seriously. However, if she did get in a blow, that might in turn distract the beast long enough for Fred to get in a strike at its more vulnerable under-side.

Saying a silent prayer, she struck at the wyrm with her sword.

  1. But the dragon was so well protected by its scales that it didn't even notice.
  2. With incredible speed, the dragon whirled round to face her. Now it was Fred who faced its strongly armoured back.
  3. As Astra had hoped, the dragon reared up in pain, giving Fred the chance to strike.
