Cedric the Younger said that he wished to stay behind so that he could
attend his friend's funeral. So Fred, Astra and Ambaric said their
farewells. Lucieno remarked, for Ambaric's benefit, that he happened to be
heading in the same direction and asked if he might join them. Fred and
Astra naturally thought it wise to agree, and Ambaric thought that he
seemed like a pleasant enough travelling companion and raised no objection.
Astra's illusory attire looked so convincing that even she herself had almost forgotten that it did not really exist, but on emerging from the inn the cool breeze on her skin quickly reminded her. It was a pleasant day, though, and was likely to warm up quickly as the sun rose higher in the sky. Lucieno had evidently acquired a horse for himself from somewhere, so the four of them mounted up and left the inn behind them.
