It started out simple enough . . .

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 62134

Rei II

. . .

You may wonder about a few things here. How I and my sister, Rei II, arrived here? Why she's crying? Maybe even WHY she has now red hair and wings similar to my own? Where are the others?

Well, those are good enough questions, I suppose.

Got a few myself. Like why my long time friend and what I would call benefactor (he DID so much for me) is holding a KNIFE to that guy's throat over there? What's with that device at their feet that I believe is a nuclear bomb?! What's with that soldier and security guard behind the glass window over there?

Well, I'll be nice and take care of YOUR questions first before I tackle getting answers for mine.

Don't thank me. You're in for a rather long explanation here. Will try to be as brief but complete as possible, which will not be easy considering that I'm . . . kind of shaken up by a bunch of it as well.

. . .

Just a warning, this next part of the story will be involving a lot of just ME and my sister. You'll see why here in a moment and if you're not into angst and such, then I suggest . . . you go elsewhere.

Your choice. No offense, this is more for MY and my sister's benefit than anything else. This tale happens (if you have not already guessed) to be both a large affair and a personal affair.

. . .

That said, I'll say It's not easy looking at what you're future could have been if but for the grace of God, you know. . . . You'll see what I mean here in a moment.

There are times when I look at my family and friends and have to wonder. Then at other times I know that I would never trade them for all the world.

One gets used to it (more or less) after a while, but I cannot say that Rei III has the same benefit of time that I've had to get use to it. Do not know what shocked her more, the idea that I actually have parents (adopted ones but true parents in all but blood), or the fact that . . . they started treating her like a long lost daughter as well.

. . .

Honestly, are my parents actually thinking about adopting this Rei as their own? That had not exactly been the plan and I'm not really sure that's allowed. I'm not adverse to it, but then again she COULD have something of a home here on this world. Not THIS dump of an apartment, but more along the lines with . . . "her" Shinji Akari.

There's going to be more about her relationship here in a bit. Too early to tackle THAT one yet.

But as for my parents, I Must bring that up that business with how they treated my sister here. Do not exactly know when I'll be able to see them again (we got . . . separated in the rush to get away from something here I'll speak of).

Anyway, that confusion didn't last too long for my young sister. The others had opted on dropping the spoofing we'd done on the surveillance cameras in apartment 402's room, more than surprising (unpleasantly) the Section 2 agents doing surveillance outside.

Right after a small spell to change the appearance of my wings, of course. A small illusion makes them look like a travel cloak rather than wings. As long as I wrap them around myself in a similar fashion (my wings . . . along with the rest of me are VERY flexible . . . all the better to sit back on a normal chair and not hurt myself) it works. No, I'm not ashamed of them. Rather, it's just that I do not wish to tip my hand quiet yet with them. Besides, you know how some NERV employees can be with Angels (or in this case perhaps those who may be mistaken for Angels).

Long shot at the last of that mistake happening being that the Neo Gen Angels (up until MY unwilling induction into the ranks for that short period of time) NEVER looked like the ones found in the storybooks and religious text. But why tempt fate?

We're taking a bit of a chance with the elves as it stands...

As we await their arrival, we asked for a boon from Rei III: put in a good word for our character, please? She was under no obligation (made sure to point that out) when we made the request, but it would be appreciated all the same.

What we'd given her we'd have done in any case, so no we were NOT trying to manipulate her or win her favor for this next part.

Honestly, we'd opted on trying to make the acquaintance of Major Katsuragi and have Rei put in a good word for us that way.

However, with people being snatched left and right? While we could do a pretty good job and protecting Rei here from being snatched, we would have to forgo a lot of . . . contact with other people. In other words, we'd have to disappear into the woodwork, and that means that would forgo contacting NERV HQ (and doing our job for this Quest).

No, as much as I have reservations about it, I'd agreed with the others: Section 2 was the best people for the job. They at least could surely keep Rei III from harm, right?

Wrong! But at the time we'd not known that this world's Section 2 is either too incompetant to check credentials OR perhaps the kidnappers out there (whoever they exactly are) are rather very GOOD at what they do.

Either way, it ended the same.

We'd said enough things (or should I say the Doctor) said enough interesting words like: SEELE, Second Impact, Lilith, Adam, Third Impact and . . . Instrumentality. That should get their attention and get us a free (as it were) trip to see the high ups in NERV. I should know, considering my background. Or at least I hope that what holds true with "my" time with NERV.

"SEELE sent you?" one of the head spooks of this group asks the Doctor blankly, looking the Timelord up and down. "What was all of this then and . . .?"

He's still not exactly what to make of the elves. They're obviously not Angels, but then again the strangest rumors float about certain experiments that SEELE is involved in. Truth is, that shadowy organization is actually involved in creating . . . new entities never before seen under the sun (liiike them creating my "brother", TABRIS, a human-form Angel). However, we needn't go and inform them of things best left unsaid. They ahve no real need to know . . .just to follow up on our "hint" to stop putzing around here with us and get us to NERV HQ, ASAP.

"Why we did what we did is of no concern to you right now," the Doctor sneers. "Just pass along the word that we would be most appreciative with an audience with the commanding officer of NERV."

For a few seconds several of the agents from Section 2 look at each other, and then at the odd group before them.

"Well old man," the head agent finally says. "You'll get your wish. You just better hope that you're not trying something that you'll . . . ."

  1. That's when I hear the gunshots, squeal of tires, and shouting!
