Fred could feel himself caught in the Dragon's spell, his will draining out
of him. He could feel fear rising in him, and prepared to face his death.
Then, something hit the Dragon from behind, breaking his concentration. It was an arrow, fired by a warrior. The warrior was tall and strong, wearing armor. He put down his bow and arrow and pulled out his sword, ready to attack. The Dragon blasted a breath of flame at the warrior, trying to kill him. But he apparently wasn't aware that Fred was now free of his control. Fred lunged at the Dragon's eye and plunged his sword into it. The Dragon screamed in pain and dropped to the ground, dead. Fred breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank you," he said to the warrior who had just arrived. "You saved my life. Who are you?" "I," said the warrior, "am Sir Korval of Aqualaria. I have come to rescue my wife, Princess Astra, from the clutches of the Dragon." Fred was shocked. Astra hadn't told him she was married. But he didn't say anything about it to Korval. "That's very noble," he said. "I'm Lord Frederigo D'Honaire. I'm on a quest to kill the Dragon." Fred was trying his best to seem unperturbed. Inwardly, he was disappointed and a little depressed. He had hoped that perhaps something would have developed between him and the lovely warrior princess. ~~Ah, well,~~ he thought, ~~I suppose there are many beautiful maidens in the Great Kingdom. Astra isn't the only fish in the pond.~~ But that still didn't help.
