The Never Ending Quest - Episode 60346

"Thank the Force that you're awake!" the young man known as Luke Skywalker gasps, blinking. He is still clearly upset at what he had come upon. "Master Yoda, for a while there I thought you would be lost . . ."

It had been some doing, garnering the rather small and ramshackle spaceship that he had finally managed to obtain from that used vehicle lot back home. At least this time around (as it were) Luke managed to land his ship without crashing it into the swampy water.

Actually, the young man is somewhat happy about that. . . .

"I . . . found you unconscious and injured," Luke goes onto to explain as Yoda winces at a headache, reaching up to clasp his head only to pause when he finds it bandaged. "Must say that the Force was with us this day because the cook fire had managed to burn itself out instead of getting out of hand and burning the place down but . . ."

He shrugs helplessly--a feat somewhat helped by the fact that with how much he must hunch over because of the low ceiling of Yoda's domicile-- not continuing because seeing no real need.

"Thank you I do," Yoda says, pausing. "However, why to my place do you come? How to my place do you come?"

Meaning how did Luke know how to find this place, considering all the fuss Yoda had gone into going into hiding. He figures that for SOME reason that his one time pupil, Obi-Wan is somehow involved in it . Something that goes with the old human for some reason felt it was time (TOO late in Yoda's opinion) to send the son of Anakin here for Yoda to train in the ways of the Force.

That task, the deciding, had been left to Obi, but after so long the green Jedi Master was begining to feel that alas . . . the time had passed. Too old this one is...

The answer the small green one causes his ears to perk up in concern. The reason why young Luke was here was . . . involved. Tales of him having lived years in a single night (and TRAINED in the ways of the Jedi) . . .

Through a quick series of tests, the old Jedi Master is shocked to learn . . .

"The ways of the Force learned you have," he whispers. "More by much than what Obi-Wan could teach in such a short time . . ."

"Uhm. . . . actually," Luke mutters, wondering just exactly how to explain the truth (for the truth will only do in this case if he wants Yoda's help). "While Obi Wan did teach me, initially, in a roundabout fashion the one who taught me enough of the ways of the Force before I . . . "

Luke sighs and shakes his head slightly, conceding to himself how foolish it had been when he now looks back upon it.

But those were my friends!! He thinks to himself, only to mutter something again in consternation. Those people had been friends whilst caught up in the throws of Game 3 but now? They were probably strangers just off the street. . . Geeze, look at Master Yoda here, mighty in the ways of the Force and even he does not remember anything...

Maybe what he experiences had been real only to himself? Or maybe . . . those others in the midst of Game 3 . . . may have gone back to some . . . other reality or diminsion of their own, different than his?

. . .

Maybe the training he got whilst in Game 3 was entirely faulty? That would be in the twisted sense of humor of some of those "Authors" he'd talked about while with Inquirer and her merry band of . . . people.

"You see . . . in a very strange way you did the majority of the training," the young man begins, continuing on while Yoda gives him a rather odd look at THAT one. He goes onto explain just HOW that came about (as incredible as it sounds), but when he gets to the part about the Champions being met by him back on the farm...

Yoda becomes VERY agitated! He knows (not sure just HOW . . . the memories are so hazy from that time unconsious) . . . that they were the VERY source of the disturbance in the Force. That and . . .

"I . . .," he sputters as something comes up from the depths of dreams and surfaces. "Frell, remember this I do! Training and acension to the Jedi ranks wait you must! Something possibly dire comes our way, it does!"

He then blinks, wondering just WHY he should happen to have cursed . . .AND why he should happen to use that particular Farscapian curseword.

"Training completion for you must wait!" Yoda says, coming to a snap decision. "The source of the disturbance in the Force we must go and

Powerful indeed was that disturbance (especially for those like Yoda who are so skilled and attuned in the ways of the Force). Something tells the one known as Yoda that something . . . monumentous is about to occur and it shall center around those who young Luke Skywalker talks of. . . .people he remembers hearing from over the ridge back on that one strange world where he'd met that one . . . rude security guard (re: ) before finding himself returned to this place (and time).

Now, why he had not felt it more odd than a passing thing . . . he cannot say beyond feeling it had ALL to do with this "game 3" place and the powerful entities called "authors" who dwell within. Indeed, he knows that without even the unexpected prodding that Luke had given him while recounting his misadventures . . . he doubts that those memories of his would have EVER surfaced.

Odd indeed, but not something to meditate over right now.

"Tatooine we must return to and confront them with. . . ," Yoda begins, only to be interrupted by

"Uh Master Yoda," Luke interrupts hesitantly. "Alderaan is where they are heading . . .by now I'm sure they've found . . . Han Solo's ship or somebody else and hoped a ride there, en route. They wanted to head off the Death Star before it got blown up. Wanted VERY much to prevent that..."

Frankly, Luke wasn't sure whether or not it could be done by that group . . . but then again they were such an unknown that maybe . . . Whatever the case they had VERY much impressed upon Luke that until he got his Jedi training done his help was not only not required but NOT desired at ALL.

A hazard he was to everyone around him, ready to fall to the Dark Side if not corrected...

That is something (and all the details of the discussion about Darth Vader and Anakin Skywalker) that Luke is yet to mention to the Jedi Master. That part will be VERY interesting.

"Yes, it is then Alderaan," Yoda begins, jumping out of bed like he'd not ever injured himself (knocking himself out due to impact with walls and all that), only to pause when he notices something. "Soon as I change clothings I must."

Luke had found Yoda in a bad way and one of the things he'd have to do was strip the Jedi Master, looking for the extent of the wounds. Yeah, the head wounds were the only thing, but still when one finds a guy unconscious and all that . . . Well, Luke took no chances. At least he went onto redress Yoda in a rather too large t-shirt of his (for modesty sake).

That done and done quickly (changing clothing and packing some gear), the two jedi (one in training and the master) head on out to the old spaceship (a snub fighter from the Clone Wars).

They pause in consternation as some form of . . . music sung in an alien sounding tongue (never heard before by either of them, really) is heard from the cockpit speakers of their ship.

It is in English...

The ship's droid (an R1 unit) appears to be actually listening to the music with a mixture of both awe . . .and dread. As if it had special meaning . . .

If they ever got a translation, this would be what they'd hear (i.e. this is the translation). It is from a group from Earth called Pink Floyd and the song . . . Could have a double meaning in more than just face value, but for this story we shall yet see what it means.

Besides a lead into something here...

"High Hopes"

Beyond the horizon of the place we lived when we were young
In a world of magnets and miracles
Our thoughts strayed constantly and without boundary
The ringing of the division bell had begun
Along the Long Road and on down the Causeway
Do they still meet there by the Cut

There was a ragged band that followed in our footsteps
Running before time took our dreams away
Leaving the myriad small creatures trying to tie us to the ground
To a life consumed by slow decay

The grass was greener
The light was brighter
With friends surrounded
The nights of wonder

Looking beyond the embers of bridges glowing behind us
To a glimpse of how green it was on the other side
Steps taken forwards but sleepwalking back again
Dragged by the force of some inner tide

At a higher altitude with flag unfurled
We reached the dizzy heights of that dreamed of world
Encumbered forever by desire and ambition
There's a hunger still unsatisfied
Our weary eyes still stray to the horizon
Though down this road we've been so many times

The grass was greener
The light was brighter
The taste was sweeter
The nights of wonder
With friends surrounded
The dawn mist glowing
The water flowing
The endless river
Forever and ever

  1. "It has begun," the R1 unit chirps in Astromech, awe within.
