Q appears in the middle of Bashir's medical facility one hour later. He is
dressed in the black pants and red shirt of security forces eighty years
ago. "Don't say a word, tiny man!" he says, waving a finger. "I was going
to stop by anyway. I don't give a damn who Captain Baldy 2.0 has floating
around his nice round noggin." Bashir's current patient, a Bajoran Federation ensign being treated for Lapras, leapt off the table and went for the emergency button on his jacket. To his credit, Ensign Dusk got his finger an inch away from the button before Q zapped him. With a bright flash of light, the man was gone. "Return him immedeatly!" Bashir demanded. "He did nothing but what he was ordered to." "Yes, all Federation flunkies have been ordered to give me crap." Q growled. "I am very insulted." "I don't care. Return him." "With or without Lapras?" Q smiled. Bashir hesitated. Weekly sessions with a doctor kept Lapras at bay but it was inevitable. Decades from now, Dusk was going to die in pain. "What's it going to be, Doctor?" Q hopped up on the table Dusk had been. "I promise I will return your man ... only you must tell me whether he will be cured of his condition or not." Bashir didn't know what to do. Of course he wanted Dusk to be free of his diseased but Q...Q wasn't trustworthy. He had eighteen innocent lives (at minimum) on his omnipotent hands, having tossed the Enterprise against the Borg for no reason.
