Invitation to Peril

"Give it back!" Tarin Gazin barked, launching himself into the air after Gorgeous, but the young man hovered just out of reach, and gravity soon brought the dwarf rolling down to earth. Laughing, Gorgeous rose higher into the air, when suddenly a dark-cloaked figure appeared beside him.

"You have failed, Sir Gorgeous." it intoned.

"But look! I captured the girl!" Gorgeous cried.

"You were defeated in the Duel. The axedwarf Tarin Gazin brought you to heel. As such, you should not even have dared to return here."

"No! Immortality must... will be mine!" Gorgeous yelled. "Just as soon as I..."

His words were interrupted by the dark-cloaked figure slicing off his head with an invisible sword. Gorgeous' body fell to earth as the figure collected his head and Alyssa's body and disappeared. The Traveller suddenly shot up into the air after him, disappearing into the same wrinkle in space-time.

"Dammit! Doesn't that boy understand anything about teamwork?" Tarin Gazin cursed.

"I don't think we can follow them this time." Luna said. "Unless you happen to have a giant ladder..."

"Am I alive or dead? I just don't get it," the Blue Beetle thought. "This doesn't look like Heaven or Hell, and this bunch seems too dysfunctional to be either angels or demons. What was that rumbling I heard just as the bullet hit me in the head?"

"You must have been brought here by the effects of that Timequake," Luna explained, as if reading his thoughts. "A very rare type of dimensional anomaly that has been known to change the fate of civilizations."

"So what you're saying is?"

"Yes. Although you consciously experienced being hit by that bullet and dying, in fact your body was moved to a different location in space-time microseconds before that happened. This is due to the random effects in perception that a Timequake can cause."

"So I'm really alive?! That means I can contact the Justice League! There is something they really need to know!"

"The Justice League?" Luna beamed. "You know about them? You must be a very high-end superhero! Can I please have your autograph?"

"Sure," the Blue Beetle said. "But first, do you know where I can find a telephone?"

Meanwhile, Tarin Gazin was examining the mangled remains of Gorgeous' body. "Looks like you couldn't regenerate this time, laddie," he clucked. "Too bad."

Suddenly he noticed an envelope tucked into Gorgeous' shirt. Ripping it open, he read 'Dear Tarin Gazin. If you ever wish to see your two friends again, come to the castle in this dimension. Further details will be provided there'.

"Grr!" Tarin Gazin said, crumpling up the letter. "It's an obvious trap! But these villains are overdue for an asskicking!"

1. Driven by Tarin Gazin, the three remaining super/heroes (Tarin Gazin, Luna, Blue Beetle), proceed straight to the Gothic castle.
2. Convinced by the Blue Beetle, the three remaining super/heroes (Tarin Gazin, Luna, Blue Beetle) head to the 1950's American town for some refreshments and to use the phone.
