Timequake! (Phase 1)

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 58886

"But if what he was saying was true, Luna," said the Traveler, "how did he teleport into the Singularity at all? I mean, I thought you said it was almost impossible..."

"It is," said Luna. "Clearly he's not proficient enough to have that kind of magickal knowledge himself. He's working for someone who's more powerful and dangerous than he is."

"Did you just spell magic with a k?" said Tarin-Gazin. "Because if you did, I'm going to kill you."

"I didn't spell anything," said Luna. "I was speaking. And spelling "magick" with a "k" is a standard practice among mages in my own homeworld, to distinguish ourselves from mere mundane illusionists."

"I could have sworn I saw it. I--oh no. I'm making no sense at all. I'm starting to sound just like the rest of you idiots!"

"Probably," said Luna, "the nature of reality in the Singularity is altering your consciousness. We should leave as soon as possible before it drives us all mad. I'm going to take us out of here."

"Shouldn't I try?" said the Traveler. "I mean, this singularity seems to be connected to me somehow, so maybe I can..."

"You're only just beginning to understand the nature of your powers," interrupted Luna. "Even I don't understand it. It's safer for us to allow me to handle this." She closed her eyes and began to chant the words she'd spent so much of her life memorizing. She felt the thrill of excitement that passed through her whenever she was finally about to use a spell for the first time. But then, as she spoke the words, she felt a trembling around her. The others looked up in horror as the sky began to darken and something around them began to scream. The Traveler cried out as he realized in the depths of his consciousness what was about to happen...

"TIMEQUAKE!"

Luna was knocked over as she was about to say the words. The magic drained out of her and assumed the form of a glowing thundercloud that rained out bolts of death on the landscape around them. The flowers were beginning to bleed. The Traveler, reaching into the depths of his memory, shouted a sacred word that he did not fully understand and the world began to shake even more...

The four heroes fell in an exhausted heap just outside a city. Only the Traveler was fully conscious and still standing. Up ahead of them were a group of small, unassuming-looking houses which flocked together like sheep. An enormous gothic castle, the biggest Traveler had ever seen, loomed over them.

"Where the Hel are we?" shouted Tarin-Gazin, awakening immediately. "And when can I start killing things?"

"I..." said Luna. "I think this is the world we were supposed to go to. Those buildings up ahead seem like suburban homes from America in the 1950s in worlds with a worldline-7 class history, but that castle seems to be more typical of a worldline-1 class history. Interesting. Thankfully, the timequake doesn't seem to have affected--wait, who's that?"

There was someone else lying on the ground beside them. He was a man wearing a blue spandex costume with yellow goggles. His form was agile and athletic, though slightly overweight. He rubbed his head ruefully. "Could anybody get the number of that bullet that just hit me in the head?"

"Who are you?" shouted Tarin-Gazin, waving his axe threateningly. "I'm running out of patience?"

"Yeah, well you haven't been shot in the head, buddy," said the new arrival. "I'm the Blue Beetle. I used to be part of the Justice League, see. And I might be dead. Well, I was just shot in the head, which usually means you're dead, but you never know."

"I've never heard of you or your stupid Justice League," said Tarin-Gazin. "Start giving me answers that make sense!"

"So obviously this can't be Earth, or at least my Earth," said the Blue Beetle. "Is this another planet or some kind of parallel universe?"

Luna rubbed her chin, looking at him raptly. "You're a superhero! I never thought I would actually see one. How fascinating." The Blue Beetle drew back, not entirely comfortable with the way she was staring at him.

"Wait," said the Traveler, "where's Alyssa?" He seemed to be on the verge of falling back into a psychotic rage.

  1. Alyssa was lying on the ground near them after all. She came to shortly afterwards.
  2. Alyssa was lying on the ground near htem after all. But she didn't seem to have a pulse.
  3. Alyssa was nowhere in sight.
  4. Sir Gorgeous flew out of the sky, holding her in in his arms. "Come and get her, if you can!" he taunted.
