Fred Comes Out of the Closet

The newcomer's jaw dropped open in astonishment at the unexpected sight of a man dressed in full armour and brandishing a sword. Thus it was Fred who spoke first: "Apologise to the lady, sir, or else I shall have to teach you a lesson in politeness."

When no apology was forthcoming, the man atill being struck dumb, Fred said: "Very well. Draw your sword."

Regaining the power of speech, the man replied:

1. "I apologise! I apologise!" All he wanted to do now was to leave in one piece. If Melissa had chosen a homicidal maniac to replace him in her affections, he wasn't going to object.
2. "But I don't have a sword." That possibility had never occurred to Fred. Every man apart from the peasants wore a sword as a matter of course.
3. "I don't have a sword. I do have this revolver, though." He produced a strange artifact from somewhere inside his clothing.
