"Oh dear," Fred said. "I'm afraid that I only have seventeen gold pieces.
You wouldn't be prepared to let us have two rooms for that, I suppose?"
"Certainly not," the innkeeper said, his tone suddenly much less friendly. "This is an inn, not a charity." "Your rooms have two beds, do they?" Astra asked. "Most of them, yes." "Then we'll share a room. Don't look so shocked, Fred. I'm sure that I can trust you to be a gentleman, and I hope that you can trust me to be a lady. The remaining gold pieces should be enough for dinner this evening and breakfast tomorrow, but after that if we want to get home we will obviously have to find a way of raising some money. Perhaps I can sell this fine gown and these shoes and buy something cheaper and more practical." "But..." Fred objected. "So that's settled then," Astra said airily. She turned back to the innkeeper. "Perhaps you would be kind enough to show us to our room."
