Ambaric found that he was frozen on the spot. A total paralysis
spell, he thought. Fear overcame him. Whoever's talking to Fred
must be a really powerful magic-user. His fear soon changed to dread.
His current state meant that he would be unable to defend himself should
whoever it was decide to deal with him. His mind racing, he tried to piece things together. This kidnap plot. Fred and Stara had said that they were travelling to the Three Kingdoms. On his visits there, he had found out that important people in the Kingdoms were protect by anti-magic wards. This he took to include philosophers. This meant that the magic- user that had paralysed him would require someone to manually kidnap a particular target. That must be it! Perhaps the magic-user had promised to deal with Stara's curse if she... wait, what was he thinking about again? Ah yes, he was going to apologise to Stara. Once his thinking had gone back to his original intention, the paralysis spell wore off, and he was able to move again. This particular time hadn't been a conscious effort on Lucieno's part. Over the years, he's had plenty of time to perfect what he might term automated response spells. When a certain situation arose, like in this case of eavesdropping, certain things such as the paralysis and the selective erasing of certain memories would occur automatically. He would be able to continue whatever else he had been doing without interruption.
