Soon the Blue Army was in a full retreat, leaving the battlefield littered
with their dead. The Green soldiers cheered and saluted Fred as they
escorted him to their commander's tent. "Gott und Himmel!" said the commander, saluting Fred crisply. He was a middle-aged man with an eyepatch and a skull-and-crossbones rank insignia on his collar. "You saved Green Army Group North from certain destruction!" Fred vaguely wondered if he had accidentally helped the bad guys. "Are you the bad guys?" he asked with atypical guile. "Ohohoho!" the commander chortled. "Nein, nein, mein herr. I assure you we are quite gut, ja? Please, have a seat." "Well, that's a relief." Fred said, sitting down on a fancy wooden stool carved with images of dragons devouring helpless peasants. "I was worried I had made a mistake here." "Allow me to introduce myself." said the commander. "I am Field Ubergruppenfuehrer Danzig, Commander of the entire Northern Front. You must be thirsty - might I offer you a blackberry schnapps?" There was a crackle of gunfire outside. "What was that?" Fred asked. "Ah, they are terminating the prisoners." Danzig smiled amiably. "Such a messy task, but alas, unavoidable in such troubled times." "Uh... yeah... I suppose." Fred said. "But that schnapps does sound good right about now." "Of course, of course, mein herr." Danzig poured Fred a drink and joined him in a toast. "Here's to the defeat of the Blue Army untermenschen!" "Heil, heil!" Fred grinned. The schnapps tingled pleasantly going down. They drank and talked and shared war stories. Danzig was particularly interested in Fred's account of how he got here. "An angel, ja?" he said, quite straightfaced. "Most fascinating. Herr Fred, you simply must travel south to the Dragon's Lair, and speak to our leader, the glorious Fueh... uh, Leader. He would be most interested in meeting someone like you." "Hmm." Fred said.
