"Though I've rather changed my mind," Alexis replied. Seeing her sister's
surprised look, she added: "I've decided that killing's too good for him."
"We could toss him overboard to get rid off him," Astra suggested. "Now that we know that he wouldn't drown, we wouldn't need to feel guilty about it." "You're just playing hard to get," Robert stated with utter conviction. (An appropriate word to use in connection with Robert, who had been convicted many, many times of various crimes; though none of them had ever merited the death penalty, or his immortality would have become common knowledge.) Five seconds later, he was rubbing his bruised chin, though of course the bruise quickly faded. He wondered if this, and more significantly the sword sticking out of his chest, had been a price worth paying for successfully distracting Astra and Alexis from putting their shirts back on. Being thrown out of the boat wouldn't be a price worth paying, since he didn't fancy a submarine walk stretching to possibly hundreds of miles. But he was confident that Fred, as a fellow man, wouldn't allow that to happen, in the unlikely event that he had misjudged the suppressed passion that he was sure that Astra felt for him.
