The Right Cave

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 5521

The valuble material they needed was somewhere in this cave system. Commander Chakotay reviewed his team as the entered. There was Ensign Samantha Wildman. He had his doubts about her coming, as she was a mother. But he knew, via personal exprience she would not take to being mollycoddled because of her status. There was Ensign Josh Bieber. Chakotay suspected that Janeway had sent him down as a sort of punishment for what had been going on. Seven, an entirely dependable sort walked by his side. Carey, the second in command of engineering carried the extraction device they would use to transport the material. He had chosen Mulcahey for his assistant, an emotional but wondefully competent Bajoran.

The team went further into the cave. Strangely it did not get darker as they went in. Soon, the room opened up into a circular arena. The far side was a lake with current, as waves gently lapped against the shore. A wooden podium stood by the lake with a book mounted on it. A hanfdul of passages branched off in random directions.

"Fascinating." said Seven.
"Never mind that." Chakotay said. "Can any of you get a fix on what we came for?"
Carey and Bieber bent over their tricorders.

  1. "Right this way." Carey said, stepping towards a passage.
  2. "We need more correlation info. Any random passageway will do." said Bieber.
  3. Seven decided to investigate the book anyway.
  4. A humanoid figure shot from the water and fell at their feet.
  5. Mulcahey spoke up. "I don't believe we've even left the ship at all. I recognize the podium. It's something I've programmed into one of my holoprograms."
