Fred was alarmed and perplexed. What had happened during the night? Since
Astra and Jorn did not trust each other, it seemed unlikely that either
would have gone with the other willingly. And besides he didn't want to
believe that Astra would have abandoned him of her own volition. Had Jorn
taken her away by force? With what motive? Or had both of them been
abducted from their camp overnight? In which case why had he been left
unmolested?
He looked for clues. Perhaps there would be signs of a struggle. If he was lucky, he might even find hoofprints to indicate which way Jorn and/or any other abductor(s) had gone.
