Battle for the Psychoverse, part 2

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 55147

When suddenly, the room began to shimmer, and a horde of heroes charged in! The Doctor and Susan were deep in intense concentration, summoning up heroes who they had met or would have encountered in possible futures, because being in the Psychoverse gave them a different awareness of time. Mike could see the Special Executive, Benny Summerfield, Miranda, the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Chronoclast, and many more... Somehow, perhaps due to the chaotic nature of this universe, Mike recognized all of them and knew who they were. Wardog of the Special Executive began firing on the cyborg Master even as he overpowered Legion with his mind. He distracted him as Fascination was able to drain his mental energy, even as she recoiled from what was in his mind. Zeitgeist phased through Omen Scourge, disrupting his chronal energy and locking the two in battle. Allan and Mina took out the Deviant, while Mr. Hyde, Captain Britain and Lady Burning Fish engaged the Ultimate Cyberman. Chronoclast knocked the Vengeance of the Black Sun across the room, while this world's version of Miranda used the mystic powers she'd learned from exploring the ruins of Faction Paradox to shatter his soul-axe.

But as they fell, a new horde of villains charged into the room--hordes of Daleks, Cybermen, Yeti, Ikaarans, Romulans, Dire Wraiths, five more counterparts of Raiden and the Revenge Squad, three counterparts of Kang and two of Immortus, and Jack Null. New heroes charged in to respond to them, but they seemed few in number compared to the villains. Agent Strange stood hovering above the room, cackling with glee. Mike realized that he and the Doctor were fighting some sort of duel by throwing enemies at each other. Agent Strange's men hadn't penetrated the circle around the Doctor, but neither had the Doctor's penetrated the circle around Agent Strange.

At that moment, Rami Gupta bent down over Mike and said a healing spell, healing not only the injuries that the Ultimate Cyberman had inflicted on him but those he'd recieved earlier as well. She then turned her attention to fighting a Fendahleen. Mike leaped upward, ready to rejoin the enormous chaotic battle but wondering where Little Mikey had gotten to. He saw a counterpart of Benny Summerfield sneaking toward the Doctor who seemed suspiciously cagey, just past where Deathghost and the Traveler were struggling futilely with Happyman. As he ran over to her, she suddenly began to turn into a Space Phantom! Mike tried to knock out the bulging-eyed pointy-haired creature when Aylissa came over and engaged it in a telepathic lock, while Checkers swooped down from above and hit him. The Space Phantom screamed and fell to the floor. But it was too late--a hole had been opened in the Doctor's defense, and the Scarlet Centurion came charging through it...

Mike kicked the Scarlet Centurion right in the nads. His big red codpiece was able to provide some defense, but not enough, and he fell to the floor consumed with rage. He tried to stab Mike with his enormous pike, but then Little Mikey leaped onto his head, knocking his helmet off and scratching him on the face, leaving a space open for Mike to knock him out. But it seemed too late. The Daleks were charging inward and mowing the tired heroes down faster than new ones could relace them. Things seemed hopeless. Then, Mike wondered whether the Doctor and Susan weren't fighting a battle on some other level they weren't thinking of. He tried to supress his thoughts, in case the enemy had any telepaths, but couldn't help but notice that the corridors were changing shape and were now centered on Agent Strange like spokes around a wheel...

And then, an enormous inrush of chaotic energy exploded at Agent Strange, and he began to scream. The summoned possible-future heroes and monsters began to disappear. "Quick! Follow us!" shouted the Doctor, holding Susan in his arms. He leaped through a whirlpool-like vortex on the wall, Mike and Little Mikey following him...

And they were spat out in the same room they'd been fighting Agent Strange in before. Betty, Ragan, Josh and Inquirer were standing around them. Agent Strange had fallen to the floor and seemed to be staring off into nothing. "Thank God you're alive!" said Inquirer. "What just happened, anyway?"

"Oh, it's simple enough. Mike somehow transported us into a possible future that existed within Agent Strange's mind, and I was able to exploit the temporal distortions caused by Agent Strange's merging with his possible future self to trap him in his own mind, thus averting that future."

"Never mind," said Ragan. "Things aren't going well for us. Look."

The monsters that had been summoned by Agent Strange were gone. But the room had been encroached by a squirming, tentacled creature of chaos that was constantly changing shape and color. It had the elves and Sigin firmly trapped in its tentacles, and they struggled vainly against it. There was no way to get through it to the thinie machine.

  1. "We're too late," said the Doctor. "Too late..."
