"I don't think so," Astra said. "I suspect that it was deliberate on Miranda's part. She hated you, me and Isabelle the most. And you saw how she attempted to brain our new friend."

She raised her voice to speak to the others, who were by now just outside the room. "If you can't persuade Miranda to help the four of us, the rest of you had better not wait, but should get away before Belboz wakes up. At least it should take him quite some time to get up to nine princesses if he has to start from only three. Perhaps you can get to a mage before then and organise a magical rescue party."
