Asking Miranda for Help

"But it must be worth asking her if she will try to remove the geas," Belinda said.

They all turned to look at Miranda, who seemed not to care that she was being talked about. She had gone to lie on her bed, with her back turned to everyone.

"Carola's the best one to ask her," Sophie said. "She seems to get on with Miranda better than anyone else, perhaps because she's the youngest."

"All right," Carola said. "I'll try."

She walked over to the far side of Miranda's bed, so that she was facing her. "Please, Miranda, will you help us?" she asked. "Can you lift the geas that is holding us here, so that we can escape? You know that if we don't get away, once Belboz obtains his ninth princess he will kill us all."

1. "All right, I will try to dispel the geas."
2. "No. Go away and leave me alone."
3. "Maybe. If you will all stop being horrid to me." "Paranoia," Astra whispered to Fred. "No-one's been horrid to her."
4. "But I want to die."
5. But Miranda did not reply.
