Fred had to admit that his luck was incredible--he'd managed to rescue not only one beautiful
princess but eight! Although one of them (Carola) was not of marragiable age (being around the
same age as his brother), one was mad, and one... was an Hespaniard. Allaria and Hespan had
never gotten along and were now only one step away from open war. Not being too aware of the
currents of politics, he didn't know much about this particular member of the Hespaniard royal
family, but he knew their general reputation very well. The code of honor which the Allarian
nobility held themselves to, though they did not always follow it, was not present in Hespan at
all. Of course, he still had a duty before his God to rescue her, but that didn't mean he had to
trust her. That said, she did not seem to look upon him with any disdain or distrust. He
wondered if an Allarian knight rescuing a princess of Hespan would smooth relations between
their two countries or simply cause the rulers of Hespan to resent Allaria further. He hoped it
wouldn't lead to him being drawn into power games of any sort.
Well, at least the escape from the passage would be easy. Usually Fred hated dealing with magic as much as he hated dealing with politics, but in both cases it is far easier when you are dealing with idiots. Belboz had been easy enough to handle. It seemed unlikely, given how careless and sloppy he'd been earlier, that he would have any particular precautions for escape here. However, when Fred and the eight women tried to leave, they found they couldn't bring themsleves to move. "Damn!" said Astra. "Belboz has placed some sort of geas on this room!" "Do any of you know magic?" asked Fred. In his own nation, of course, nobles tended to shun magic, but in others it might be different. It might have been a foolish question to ask, of course, since if one of them had had any sort of magic it might have helped them escape... but then again one of them might possess knowledge to break the geas without having possessed the knowledge to unlock the cavern.
