Into the Red Door

The two Freds didn't say anything for quite a while, being rather disoriented by the experience of seeing themselves. Finally, the new Fred broke the silence. "Alright, what exactly is going on here?" he said. The Fred who knocked on the door noticed that the other Fred had a slightly different accent.

"I...I don't understand any more than you do," said the original Fred. "I was walking through this cave when a door appeared. I knocked it and you came out."

"It's possible that this is some sort of evil sorcery," said Exotica. "But we could be dealing with intersecting world-lines. A great sorceror once had a theory that there is not just one Earth but many coexisting Earths, similar and yet different. You could come from one of those. Oh, by the way, I'm Princess Exotica, daughter of the King, and the dog is Velus, just in case you don't know us."

1. Fred didn't know Exotica. In his world, the King had no daughter by that name.
2. Fred wanted to embrace Exotica, the love of his life who he had thought he'd never see again, but reminded himself that this was not his world's Exotica.
3. Fred wanted to run Exotica, the tyrant queen who had brought so much evil to the Kingdom, through with this sword right now, but reminded himself that this was not his world's Exotica.
