The Never Ending Quest - Episode 52391

"So unless one of you are blind" said the landlord. "I'm afraid you must leave". Fred was about to argue when irritated voice said "Excuse me, sir!” Everyone looked over at Jorn and gasped.

They stared at his eyes where his pupiles should be, but they didn't exist anymore! His eyes now resembled a blind person!. But how could this be? Five seconds ago, his eyes were perfectly normal.

"Oh my, I am so sorry my dear sir". Said the landlord, his face flushed in embarrassment. "I didn't realize that right away. My apologies, sir!"

"I'd think so” Said the irritated centaur, who knocked down his drink trying to grab it. “Please sir! Let me get that” said the landlord, taking out a dirty cloth from his pockets and picking up the mess. “I’ll get you another one. In fact, to apologies, the meal and drinks are on me! The landlord walked to the kitchens with great haste.

“Close call” said the centaur once the landlord was out of earshot. He then noticed the bewildered expressions on his companion’s faces and grinned. “Recently, we centaurs have discovered a new constellation in the sky. Centaurs who are born on exactly on March 26th during the 18th hour gain the ability to change their facial appearances. As he said this, scars began to appear all over his face, and his changed from brown to green, but then quickly changed them back when the landlord came out of the kitchen, holding a plate of ale, salad, and spicy potatoes.

Once the landlord had left again (After apologizing several more times), he continued to tell them about this ability of his. “Even though I may appear blind, I am perfectly capable of seeing just fine, better than most elves in fact”. Jorn took a sip of his ale (Failing to knock it down, this time) and stared in the direction of the landlord. “Not a bright fellow, if he? Centaurs are born with certain immunities and perfect eyesight is one of them. It’s impossible for a centaur to become blind, so I never thought I’d find this trick of mine-but he was then interrupted by Astra.

”Can you also change your physical appearance?” she asked with an odd tone in her voice. Jorn smiled. “No, no, my good lady. I told you earlier that I only have the power to change my facial appearance, not my physical appearance. Jorn continued to eat his meal, and after a few seconds, the others did the same. But Fred noticed Astra was glaring at Jorn as she ate, but the centaur was enjoying his meal too much to notice this.

”Well, we’d better get a move on then” said Jorn happily, and got to his feet and walked to the door. Fred and Velus followed, but Astra just stood their and then said “Say, how about I get us all one more tankard of ale for the road?” Fred shook his head. “No, we’ve had enough. We should save the rest of our gold incase we need to stop again. “No, please! I insist. It’s my treat. Fred was about to retort again when Jorn began to chuckle.

“Fred! C’mon. If she really wants to do this, let her. She’s a full grown woman, not a child. “Yes, what he said” Astra said, Fred noticing it becoming darker. “Alright” Fred sighed. “We’ll wait by the door”. “Wait!” she said. “There are four of us, so I’ll need some help carrying the tankards. She gave him a sort of stare which obviously meant she wanted him to help. Fred sighed again, told the other two to wait by the door, and then followed Astra, but instead of going to the bar, they went into a table in the farthest corner of the room. She sat down and motioned Fred to sit down. Fred sat down, trying to guess what had gotten into Astra.

”Princess,” Fred started. “Are you sure you’re feeling well today?” Astra pretended he had never said that. “Fred, you remember me telling you that the dragon has the power to transform himself? (219) “Yes,” He answered. “What about it?” But he sure he knew what she was thinking. “Well, you saw Jorn changed his the way he looks. Don’t you see?” she said. “Oh come on!” answered Fred. “You think Jorn is the dragon? If he really was the dragon, why would he have saved my life?”. “Oh, don’t you see Fred? He must be using us for something! That “Only facial appearance” stuff sounds like a lot of mumbo jumbo to me. I’m ready to bet he can change his physical form anytime he feels like.

Fred couldn’t believe what he was hearing. “Look, Astra, what could he possibly be using us for?” “How about entering the kingdom?” The princess said triumphantly. “We’re going to walk right into the throne room to warn the king. What a perfect opportunity that would to slay the king, and ruin the kingdom in the process.”

Fred shook his head, irritated. “It would also leave him trapped. We would slay him. The dragon wouldn’t sacrifice himself just to kill a king.” “Then maybe he just wants to spy on the place! Figure out the layout when he attacks. Maybe even add more that spy device of his.”

The two continued to argue for the next three minutes when they heard Jorn yell “Oh, for the kingdom’s sake! What is taking you two so long?” Fred got up and said “Look, I trust all of you. I don’t think any of us are traitors! He walked away from the table furious. Why would the princess think something like that? After all Jorn had done for them. Even still, Fred couldn’t help but wonder if maybe Jorn could be a traitor. Could the princess be right? Could Jorn actually be here to spy on the kingdom or even destroy it?

He kicked these thoughts out of his head as he approached the door, meeting with an impatient looking Jorn. “So, where are the drinks?” he asked, sounding irritated. ”Oh no” Thought Fred. That argument with Astra made him completely forget about the drinks (Not that she was probably going to buy them anyways). “Their ale was running low, so they began to charge it for a higher price. We were trying haggle with them, but we couldn’t get them to drop it. In the end, we decided it wasn’t worth the money and left.”

”Really?” said Jorn suspiciously. At that moment, Astra walked by them looking bitter. “Well, are we going or not?!”

  1. Thankfully, Jorn decides to forget about the drinks and the four head off.
  2. "Hold on" said Jorn. "I want to see this for myself!"
