When the shower of horsemeat had finished, Astra and Velus emerged from cover. "That was interesting," Astra said. "Do your horses often blow up?"

"It's never happened before. I was going to let you take him, whilst I went back into the caves to deal with the dragon. But now I don't know what to do for the best. Without a horse, it would take you several days to reach the nearest settlement. And most of my supplies were in the saddlebags, so I couldn't let you have much in the way of food."

1. "I'm sure I'll manage. I suppose this is where we say goodbye. Good luck with the dragon, Fred."
2. "I never did care for walking long distances. I think I'd better help you deal with the dragon."
3. Something even more unlikely than an exploding horse occurs.
