Since water was continually being added to the pool from the fountain, it
had to have some exit if it was not to overflow. But Angelina was
surprised that the hole that she had found was large enough for her to fit
into. It seemed much bigger than was necessary.
The question was whether she should risk going through it. She could stay underwater for a long time, but would need to come up to breathe eventually. However she had no guarantee that she would reach a place where that would be possible in time. Eventually she decided that she would try escaping that way only as a last resort. Her mouth was not suited to human speech, but she could make loud dolphin squeaks which might attract someone who would be able to help her.
