...and entered a world of sulphur-napalm stench, explosions, flying dirt
and the screams of the dying. Blood rained from the dark-grey sky as the
Blue Army and the Green Army fought in violent close-hand combat. From
what Fred could see, it appeared that the Blue Army's heavy tanks were
overrunning the Green Army's fortifications, and the Green soldiers were
suicidally hurling themselves at the tanks with grenades, Molotov
cocktails and anti-tank weapons, anything that came in handy. Automatic
weapons fire chattered deafeningly on both sides as men and machines
moved in a bloody, undulating, oddly hypnotic dance. Fred loaded another round into his grenade launcher. Earlier, he had been surprised at the ease with which he used such a primitive weapon. Being a Knight-Grenadier of Allaria, he was much more accustomed to shoulder- fired low-yield nuclear launchers, and his flavorite, the long-range thermobaric flamethrower. Fred checked his sword to make sure it was strapped on tight, patted his sidearm and threw himself into the fray.
