dragons like that rather strange," Astra said. "The dragons that
Helsingdon are employing must be very different creatures from the magical
one that I encountered."
"I suppose so," the captain replied. "The Helsingdonians have apparently found them very reliable. They pay them with precious stones for any missions that they carry out for them." "I see. I would like to make myself useful, so I would be happy to try to contact your friends for you." As she had expected, the captain turned the idea down flat: "No, certainly not." But Henri came to her support. "Who else could you send? You can't spare any of the officers or NCOs, or myself. Is there anyone amongst the ordinary soldiers that you would be willing to entrust an important mission like this to? Astra may be a princess back home, but why should that worry us if it doesn't worry her? She has the intelligence and self- reliance that a mission like this requires."
