The Never Ending Quest - Episode 51204

Inquirer

They call themselves "Fifi" and "Bambi", but even at the time I felt something wasn't . . . quiet on the up and up here. See, unless these two have some kind of magical knack for showmanship--though I believe all of it tends towards there . . .bedroom skills more than anything really challenging, intellectually wise--then someone out there has a REAL strange sense of humor!

Their previously blank "collars" suddenly have their names magically engraved upon them once they are said aloud by these self admitted bawdy girls (or as Chiana would call them: tralks). Now, it does not take a Military Analyst (now quasi-retired nor no) to figure out that something here is even more strange than what I had figured upon going into this mess!

Or, as they also say back Home: "Something is rotten in Denmark."

. . .

After making note of that, vowing to come back to that in good time (!), I then get the others to introduce themselves. . . .

. . .

My mood, already none too light right now (for Creator’s sake, a good and decent friend of mine is now dust and dead!) takes an even darker turn when I learn more of "Freda" and "Astra" . . .

It is the off-reality Dr. Vincent who throws it out, but when the middle-aged woman Xyllis sputters out a protest . . . That did NOTHING but confirm this . . . THIS TRAVESTY . . .

I have had my sensors to full, weighing each and every bio reading for signs of falsehood or tell tale signs of mind alteration or control (slightly slurred speak or some other sign to show that the target was goobered into singing "true" songs that others wanted them to sing). Yet with all of this, I still find myself . . .

Which, I may add, I detect a slight whiff of some of the more exotic brands of magical ingredients, some minerals and herbs, upon "Freda" and "Astra". I had given the others here the benefit of the doubt, being that those particular ingredients can be used for more benign medications than . . . mind control.

. . .

There are some borders who should not be crossed: one being the sanctity of the mind. This BITCH had no RIGHT to do what she had done, altering their minds like THIS!

. . .

Pardon, there are few things out there that can get this former AI girl wound up more quickly than another infringing/altering another’s mind. Has something to do with ol’ sentient computers fears of having their human "partners" go back and try to "reprogram" them because it might be . . . Convenient. THAT, by the way, is one of the fatal falling out points we AIs (or former AIs if you want to be technical) had with the Company. AND that is why I'm . . . rather pissed right now...

And if it appears that I'm in something of a snit right now . . . . Well, let us just say that it is DAMN lucky I am in so much control right now . . . or else this good female magic user before me . . . would be dead. Dear ladies and gentlebeings, THIS happens to be my one hotbotton. It rarely gets pushed and I rarely allow it to be pushed but . . .

Yeah, she did it for the "greater good". For god and country, she did THIS to the sleeping beauties at my feet. Oh, I could see SOME us for . . . mind alteration, but I draw the line at a bit of lethe water to erase memories that could do the memory owner (and ME) into trouble. This is . . . way beyond.

This next part I . . . don't exactly like, even though . . . Well, rank hath privilleges but also responsibilities. As a Marquise of Ethiopia (re: 6223) --the place where I AM right now-- I am duty bound to do . . .my duty!

After summoning the willreader, our esteemed Mr. Rift, and my friends to do this right and proper, I turn back to the awaiting royalty and friends (and whatnot) . . . Looking directly at Xyllis. . .

  1. "You did this to them?" I say in a slow, deadly whisper. "You ARE incompetent, period. That is the only reason why I am letting you still breath!"
