Anne woke up in a corner of the church, a piece of rolled up cloth under
her head. She sat up and looked around. There was Fred, her new husband.
There was the lovely chicken stew, standing on a table. And lying a few
feet away was Astra, Fred's other new wife.
Astra woke up in a corner of a huge room. It was a church. She felt slightly disorientated. Looking around, she found that she had no idea where she was or why she was there. Looking down, she saw that she was dressed in a wedding dress. A man came over to her. He looked vaguely familiar, but Astra couldn't place him. "My darling! You are awake!" he said, kissing her on the forehead. Anne watched from a few feet away, seething. Of course he would go to her first! She sat up on her elbows. Her head hurt a little but apart from that she was fine. She slowly stood up. Fred noticed her. "Anne!" He went over to her and kissed her. Astra watched in confusion. When the man had called her "My darling" she had thought maybe he was her husband. But now he had kissed this other woman. Someone called Fred away, leaving the two women alone. Astra rose from the floor. "Who is he? I don't remember..." Anne realised that the blow on the head had taken away Astra's memory. "I know my name is Astra. But who is he? Why am I wearing a wedding dress? What is going on?" A smile curled around Anne's lips. She could see how she could turn this to her advantage. But could she really bring herself to do it?
