As Fred dived out of the room, a giant boulder smashed into the floor
behind him, blocking the entrance to the room with the paintings.
Laying with his face in the dirt, Fred suddenly realized that someone was standing over him. He raised his head and saw a strange bearded man. The man was looking at Fred with eyes that spoke of madness and death. "You have destroyed my paintings!" the man growled. Fred got up and wiped some dirt off his face. "Who are you?" he asked the man. "Why, I am the Mad Painter!" the man answered. "I have lived in this cave for forty years, and never once have a creature of the caves disapproved of my work." He looked around with dreaming eyes. "This place is far better than the human world, you know." "That's all very good," Fred began, "but I think I'll have to-" "SILENCE!" the Mad Painter shouted. "You have destroyed my paintings. Now you will have to die." He pulled out a small, rusty dagger and pointed it at Fred. "People who have no respect for the fine arts have no right to live."
