Runaway Princess

"Two weeks!!" Fred shrieked.

"It was horrible," the princess insisted weakly.

"What were you doing for the other two years and eleven-and-a-half months?" Fred demanded.

With a heavy sigh, Yaiviane studied the ground. "You have to promise not to tell Father," she whispered.

Fred considered. Upon returning with the King's lost daughter, he would undoubtedly be a hero. His Majesty would be grateful, no doubt, but he was unlikely to be pressed for details. And any story he gave would certainly be eclipsed by whatever story the Princess herself chose to spin. There was no reason for him not to give his word.

"Fine, I promise. None shall hear it from my lips."

"Very well," Yaiviane nodded, and began her tale.

1. Three years ago, Yaiviane fell in love with a vagabond named Gregor and fled her life of luxury to be with him.
2. Yaiviane had dedicated the past three years of her life to the study of planting, tending, and harvesting carrots.
3. Shoe shopping. She could never find just the right ones...
