"Maybe not," Scotty said, "But it'll prevent them from taking the
Enterprise wherever it is that they want to take her. That ought t'throw
a good spanner or two inta their schemes!" "Right," Sulu agreed. "And they won't dare send a distress signal because then they'd have to explain why half the crew was locked away." "Plus, any scans might show them that half the crew vas infected by aliens of some sort," Chekov added. Fred agreed that all of this sounded reasonable. "Right," Scotty agreed. "The main junction's seven decks down. Follow me - we'll ha' ta get into the big Jeffreys Tube t'reach it." The four of them began climbing again, this time with Fred bringing up the rear. Fred found herself drawing on Uhura's memories to identify the various decks and artifacts she saw. If I were still just plain old Fred, she mused, Seeing all this and knowing what it could do would probably drive me insane. But now, I'm as accepting of it as anyone from this time. She wondered whether that was a good thing or not. Finally, they reached the Deck 18, where the relay junction was. "Mr. Sulu, can y'detect any o' them parasites out there now?" Sulu scanned. "There are a few, but they seem to be in the opposite direction from the relay." "Aye, that's a good bit o'news. Aright, lads - and Uhura - let's go. But be careful." Cautiously, Chekov pushed open the door.
