The only light came from Lava Man's glowing, snoring frame, as he slept and
dreamed whatever dreams it is Lava Men dream. Fred sighed and tossed a
pebble at the wall. It seemed there was no hope of escape. The bars were
lava-proof, and too thick for Fred to punch through even at full strength. Fred
tried to resign himself to dying here, in sorrow and despair. But as he closed
his eyes images came flashing past unbidden - of his father and human
mother, and of his friends and loved ones. There was no sight of Umbriela,
and for that Fred was grateful. He sensed movement in the hallway, but did not open his eyes. It was probably just another Bunny guard. But then a key was rattling in the lock, and Fred looked up. It was a Bunny - but somewhat different than the others, with long, flowing white hair and ears, and a diaphanous flowing gown. She seemed extremely pale, almost ghost-like somehow - and oddly familiar. "What do you want?" Fred snarled. "Have you come to mock me in my captivity, you vile Bunny? Just leave me to die!" "Lord Brother!" the Bunny cried, leaping forward to hug him. "Oh, how I've dreamed of this day! Thank the Heavens you still live!" "Brother?!" Fred said in confusion. "That is ghetto slang, right? Like 'word' or 'phat' or 'get down'?" "Nay, Lord Brother." the Bunny said, her grey eyes gleaming in the lava- light. "I am Lucille, daughter of Umbriela and Oberon, the Undead Gnome King, and thus your half-sister by blood." "So that would make you... my cousin?" Fred said. "Aye." Lucille grinned, pressing closer to him. "Ever since I heard I had a human cousin I have dreamed of the day I could meet him. And that day is finally here! I can finally live by your side, eat, and sleep beside you, have you stroke my ears..." "Get off me, you treacherous Bunny!" Fred shouted. "Do you think I would believe such a farcical tale of nonsense! I cannot trust the word of any furry being anymore!" "You are cruel, Lord Brother!" Lucille squealed. "I should nibble you to death!" She started doing just that when Fred tossed her off in contempt and stood up. "Kill her, Fred!" Lava Man barked, stirring. "She's jailbait! Show no mercy!" "If that is Lord Brother's wish." Lucille sobbed, closing her eyes. "Then I will not resist. Strike me down, Lord Brother! Please do it in one blow... I am a little frightened..." "Aw, geez." Fred said.
