"Yes, I'm dead, thanks to you," Fred said bitterly. "I imagine that is why
you can see me but not my companion, for I have another ghost with me.
Yes, I'm a ghost now. The worst of it is that every night, at midnight, I
have to relive - though that hardly seems the right word - my death, with
all the pain and terror that I felt originally. Soon you too, darling
Astra, will be dead. I hope that you too will become a ghost and will have
to experience your death every night, over and over again, till you feel
that you must go mad with the horror of it. Perhaps when you are dead, I
shall become free. Or perhaps we shall be ghosts together. Won't that be
fun? If your death does not free me, then it may be that completing my
quest of killing the Dragon will do so, so I shall attempt that." [16116]
