The timeline of the memories of Freda and Astra was at this point much more complicated than it ought to have been, and mostly involved a lot of switching around. To give them the minds of bawdy girls, Pronklezilch had pushed their original memories deep down into their subconsciouses, and placed their new, manufactured ones on top. Norla had had some difficulty, of course, just getting to their old ones, and bringing them to the surface, so it had been easier to just phase their true memories with their false ones, which was why they still retained most of their bawdy girl wiles and experience.

When Xyllis had sorted through the mixture, she brought all bawdy elements back to the surface in full force. This time, all the recent mental commotion had become a bit too much, and the girls' true identities as Lord Frederigo and Princess Astra had been pushed far, far down, where only a powerful practitioner of magic might hope to reach—but retrieving these memories yet again might be very dangerous.

"They are peacefully asleep in my chamber," Xyllis went on to the Queen, "and will wake soon, should you have any more questions for them. If not, what would you have me do with them?"

  1. "Ask them where their bawdy house is, and send them back there, where they belong."

  6. Before Helia could respond, a guard entered the room. "Begging your Majesty's pardon," he panted, "but Mage Xyllis, your two prisoners have disappeared!"
  7. Before Helia could respond, Dr. Vincent appeared suddenly near the door of the throne room.
