Rudolf was standing on his terrace, pleased with the way his party was
going, when he felt a sudden chill. Odd, it's the middle of
summer, he thought. As he looked around to see what might be the
cause, he heard some of his guests gasp and exclaim. He turned just in time to see his statues shimmering and glowing - and then with a sudden *pop*, the marble transmuted into flesh. Where two exquisitely beautiful statues had stood, there were now two equally exquisitely beautiful women, each slightly over five feet tall, with raven-colored tresses and perfect features, each clad only in two diaphanous swaths of silk. Just as he caught sight of them, the pair spotted him as well - and their beatific expressions changed immediately. "Ooooh!" one exclaimed as she advanced on him. "You horrible man, you!" "You tricked us into coming here," her twin added, "And then you wouldn't pay us!" "And Mistress Candy wouldn't pay us either!" "And you had some mean old wizard - Conkysomething - turn us into statues!" "And we've been stuck here ever since!" "You're mean!!!" they exclaimed together. Rudolf was dumbstruck - none of it was true, of course, but how had this happened? "Is, um, is there a problem, your lordlingship?" came a voice from behind him. "Pronklezilch! Thank goodness! Somehow these, these..." "Now don't worry, Rudolf, I'll handle this." he said, stepping between the cowed lordling and the incensed twins. "Greetings, lovely girls - my name is the Wizard Pronklezilch - but you may call me 'Pronky'." "I'm Freda." "And I'm Astra. "We're bawdy girls - really good ones, too." "We work for Mistress Candy, but..." "Say no more, dear ones - I heard it all. It seems to me that Rudolf here is as much a victim of Conkaltheus as you are. But if you two will come with me, I think I can straighten everything out - with your lordship's permission, of course." "Yes, yes, absolutely," Rudolf said with relief. "Oh, thank you so much, Pronky!" cooed Astra. "And we'll really be ever so - grateful!" said Freda. "Think nothing of it," he said with a smile - a genuine one, for not only had he managed to cast aspersions on Candy's honesty (to teach her a lesson), but he'd appeared to help an influential (if annoyingly flighty) lordling while implicating a rival mage at the same time. "Now, come with me, my girls," he said. With a giggle, Freda and Astra cuddled up close to Pronklezilch, and with a flash, the three of them vanished.
